About Competition

Submissions are open for the Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2024. The focus is on the topics that are the most meaningful, pressing and present in our world.

The Aesthetica Short Film Festival(ASFF), founded in 2011, is an international film festival taking place at the beginning of November in the UK. It is a celebration of independent film from around the world, and an outlet for supporting and championing filmmaking. Each year, we accept roughly 300 films into our Official Selection, chosen from thousands of entries worldwide. Each of the selected films is in competition to win numerous awards, chosen by an esteemed jury of industry professionals. Year on year, the Official Selection becomes a testbed for new ideas, offering reflection on the future of film, and featuring the next biggest names in independent cinema. Short film submissions are accepted across multiple genres:

All short films should be 30 minutes or under.

Narrative Feature Film (60 – 120 Minutes)

Organiser is looking for a great film, bold stories that are told differently. They focus on the topics that are the most meaningful, pressing and present in our world and welcome a diversity of subject matter and styles.

Diversity of subject matter and styles is welcomed.

The 14th edition of the Aesthetica Film Festival will run from 6-30 November 2024 in York, UK.

Submission requirements

➜ Short films should have a maximum running time of 35 minutes.
➜ Feature films are considered to have a runtime of 35 minutes or over.
➜ For 360 films, please ensure that your work is compatible with Oculus Go headsets. Please provide a downloadable link to your project as an mp4 file.
➜ For VR and Immersive experiences, please provide a link to a fully build of the project. Please also include a setup reader and full technical requirements. The festival does not supply any additional equipment beyond headsets and VR laptops.
➜ All films in languages other than English must have burnt in subtitles.
➜ There is no premiere requirement. We will accept submissions of films that have previously screened elsewhere, including at other festivals.
➜ There is no required completion date for screening, but films completed in the past 2 years are preferred.
➜ Only submissions through Filmfreeway will be considered

Eligibility

All established or emerging filmmakers, who are driving film forward through inspirational and innovative works, are invited to submit their work.

Prize

Selected films will screen in competition and be eligible for coveted awards, including Best in Category and the Best of Festival Award. The festival is BAFTA-Qualifying for short films and £5,000 of cash prizes are up for grabs.

Entry fees

During the Regular Submissions (1 December – 31 May 2024) period:

➜ Short Films: £27
➜ Feature Films: £43
➜ 360 Film, VR & Immersive Projects: £39 After that period ends amount of the entry fee will increase.
