GIRAF 20 International Festival of Independent Animation : The Quickdraw Animation Society has started accepting submissions for its GIRAF 20 International Festival of Independent Animation seeking for the best independent animation from around the world.

About Competition

The GIRAF 20 International Festival of Independent Animation is annual animation festival organised by Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) now is accepting submissions for 2024.

This annual Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival (GIRAF) presents independent animation that pushes boundaries through the use of new techniques, hybrid forms of creation, unique visions, stimulating subject matter and thus animation that is rarely seen at other festivals.

This annual animation festival that runs each November at the Globe Cinema in Calgary, GIRAF celebrates the spirit of independent, underground, and experimental animation, showcasing Canadian animators and presenting diverse animations from around the globe.

The organizers are looking for animation submissions, in all styles, genres, lengths, and mediums. That can mean abstract or narrative, hand-drawn or computer-generated, student films or well-established professionals, or somewhere in between. They want films they can be excited about, films that are pushing forward what animation can do.

The commercial works is not accepted. The festival is also aimed at an adult audience, so organiser rarely select films that are explicitly aimed at children. Music videos are admittedly a bit of a grey area.

Selected films will be presented during GIRAF 20 and the best International and Canadian short film will be awarded.
