About Competition

Photography And Literature 2024, organised by Words in Images by Artist Eva Asaad has been recently opened for entries.

Photography and Literature 2024 bridges the imaginative worlds of visual storytelling and written narratives, inviting photographers to submit works that draw inspiration from literature. This unique competition explores the depth and breadth of storytelling through the lens of a camera, encouraging participants to translate the essence of literary works into compelling visual narratives. By opening entries to a wide range of literary forms, including poetry, prose, and drama, the contest underlines the universality and versatility of storytelling, whether through words or images.

The challenge laid out by the competition is not just to create visual representations of literature but to delve into the nuanced interplay between text and image. Entrants are tasked with capturing the mood, theme, characters, or even the narrative arc of their chosen literary pieces in a single photograph. This exercise pushes the boundaries of interpretation and creativity, inviting photographers to reflect on the visual language inherent in written works and how this can be communicated through their artistic medium.

Words in images connect the world of photography with the world of literature. Both concern themselves with the art of observation, choosing a section of reality, transporting individual content out of direct experience, and changing perception. This competition is aimed at photographers, and is for works inspired by specific works of literature. The choice of literary form (poetry, prose, drama etc.) is open.

Only one photo inspired by literature will be accepted per person. The entry shall not exceed 9 MB.

The 10 winners will be chosen by the jury Regina Anzenberger, Bernd Stiegler, Eva Asaad. The selected winners will be shown during the TDDL (June 26th to 30th 2024) in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee..
