CALL FOR ENTRIES: Grössling City Bath Renovation Competition is an new international architecture competition recently organised by the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava, Slovakia and Bratislava, with intent to renew the historical city bath Grössling.
Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava, Slovakia and Bratislava, the Capital City of the Slovak Republic have announced an international architectural competition to renew the historical city bath Grössling.
Grössling City Bath is an iconic building in Bratislava. It reached its prime in 1914 when the original object was extended by a swimming pool, three sitting pools and saunas. An emphasis is put on the creation of a space with both cultural and social character; i.e. a new and unique meeting point for Bratislava residents and visitors to the city. Guidelines:
The scope of the competition is to find a design that meets the requirements of the assignment the most. Bratislava city wishes to revive the original recreational role of the now defunct Grössling Bath. In line with the current trend of merging various functions of public buildings and thus offering its users new ways how to spend their free time, by moving one branch of the City Library of Bratislava - the restoration plan includes not only the utilization of the bath area, but also of the area outside of it, dedicated to the cultural and community events. The main concept of merging these two functions is the idea of ’immersion’. On one hand, it represents the idea of immersing oneself in the bath ambience, in a place of relax and tranquility, on the other, immersion into books in the library, a place of calm. The two separate areas should be interconnected with a café, which, together with the park on the Medená street, will be the most public part of the whole object. This park should become a meeting point for both the inhabitants of this neighbourhood and the visitors of the Grössling object.
This is the two rounds architectural competition. The first round is not remunerated, three to five competition teams will qualify for the second round where will be awarded with prizes and remuneration.
