About Competition

Over the past 25 years the ING Discerning Eye exhibition and art competition sponsored by ING Commercial Banking, has established an outstanding reputation among artists, collectors and enthusiasts for its unique curatorial approach.

It is an exhibition of small works, independently chosen by prominent figures from the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics.

For artists this art competition is an opportunity to have work hung alongside that of well-known and established names at a major London art venue.
To enter work you must have either been born or be currently resident in the UK, your work must be for sale, and it must be a maximum of twenty inches in any dimension.
Artists can submit up to six works which can be two or three dimensional.
All works must be for sale.
All works must be within the maximum size limit (20 inches, 50 cms).
Works must be an original creation by the artist (prints, photographs and sculptures are accepted).
The open submission process begins in the early summer with the publication of the call for entries and the selections are made in September.

It provides an unusual opportunity for works by lesser-known artists to be hung alongside contributions from internationally recognised names.

Work is selected from open submission and from artists invited by the individual selectors. Each selector’s section is hung separately giving the impression of six small exhibitions within the whole.

The 2016 selectors include: artists Dan Coombs and Chris Orr RA; collectors Celia Imrie (actress) and Ian Mayes QC (Treasurer of the Temple Church); art critics Sacha Craddock and Michael Glover. Each selector will curate a section of the exhibition with its own distinctive identity, resulting in six small exhibitions within one overall show.

The entry fee is for this competition is 12 GBP (approx. 16 USD) per work.

Eligibility

This competition is open to artists born or resident in the UK only.
