As part of its long-standing commitment to selecting and publishing high quality illustrated books, Edelvives Publishing Group presents the 7th Edelvives International Picture book award inviting all writers and illustrators of legal age of any nationality to take a part.
The goal of Edelvives International Picture Book Award is to encourage authors and illustrators to submit proposals for editorial projects which offer new ideas, allowing Edelvives to continue innovating in the development of its publishing line.
Works must fall under the heading of picture book, meaning a book in which the story is told through images and text, each complementing the other.
Each participant may anonymously enter a maximum of 2 projects in the competition. These must be original, unpublished and may not be submitted to another publishing house for evaluation at the same time. Projects may not be withdrawn from the competition during the submission period.
The proposed picture book may be of any size as long as it is no smaller than 21x18.5 cm and no larger than 30x39 cm. The length of the project must be 32 pages (flyleaves included). The subject of the text submitted is at the author’s discretion. The length should be no more than 6,000 keystrokes or characters with spaces.
The project must contain:
• a sealed envelope with the personal details of the participant or participants (name, address, telephone number and email address), as well as a brief biographical profile;
• two paper copies of the following:
- a document presenting and explaining as well as possible what the project consists of,
- the complete text of the work,
- a storyboard,
- three finished illustrations (copies, not originals) which show the protagonist in different situations,
- the proposed flyleaf content.
The prize will be awarded to the best editorial project for a picture book submitted, not to a finished work.
The jury, formed by specialists in different fields of culture and artistic creation, will award the prize based on factors such as best proposal or original idea for a project, best text, best illustrations, best proposed setting, best storyboard, and best flyleaf proposal.
Notice of the winning project will be published in March 2018.
There is no entry fee for this competition.
It's free to enter!
This award is open to all writers and illustrators of legal age of any nationality who submit projects in Spanish, English, French or any of the autonomous community languages of the Spanish State.
The Edelvives editing and design teams will work with the winner or winners to edit the work.
The creator or creators undertake(s) to work in collaboration with the Edelvives professional teams to complete the project within the aforementioned period and ensure that the editorial policy established by Edelvives is followed.
The prize will be worth 9.000 Euro. This prize money shall be considered part of the authors' royalties, and it will be paid when the authors deliver the finished work for printing.
This award is to be divided between the illustrator and author, with a 70/30 split.
The winning authors will be required to participate in the promotion of the book.
The original illustrations may be displayed publicly and all images made for the work may be reproduced and displayed for publicity and promotional purposes.
