The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology 2023: The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology 2023, international annual juried competition now in its twelfth year is calling for entries and like every year celebrates the very best art created digitally by artists around the world.

About Competition

The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology, every year organized by Lumen Art Projects, is calling all artists engaging with technology to submit their best work for 2023.

This prize celebrates the very best art created with technology through a global competition, exhibitions.

All art is eligible as long as it engages with technology in some form. You do not need to be a digital artist or be able to design software to enter.

There is no limit on the age of a submitted work.

The judging of the Lumen Prize will be done in two stages. The longlist is determined by the International Selectors Committee of curators, artists and academics. This longlist is then reviewed by the Jury Panel, who select the Shortlist and Award Winners.

Up to 70 artists are longlisted annually and are automatically included in the Lumen Artist Community.

Submission requirements

➜ You are required to submit a primary image or video that best represents your work. You are able to upload three supporting images. Videos should be hosted on Youtube or Vimeo.

The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology 2023 is open to artists from around the world.

Prize

The 2023 rewards list includes:

➜ Gold Award (goes to the artist or collective whose work is judged to be exceptional across all categories) – $4,000
➜ Still Image Award (for 2D work using any digital process, including computer generated/graphic imagery, A.I generated imagery, photo-manipulation, plotter/drawing machine imagery, generative imagery, XR generated imagery, and 3D scanner/lidar imagery) – $1,000
➜ Moving Image Award (for time-based work using any digital process that is narrative or non-narrative including but not limited to, animation, CGI, real-time CG, generative visuals, A.I generated visuals, video art, video game cutscenes, machinima, and music videos) – $1,000
➜ 3D/Interactive Award (for work that engages with audiences through sound, touch or movement, including but not limited to installation, sculpture, robotics, games, apps, and websites) – $1,000
➜ Immersive Environment Award (for an immersive experience using any digital processes including but not limited to performance, XR, virtual worlds, projection, theatre projects) – $1,000
➜ Metaversal Generative Art Award (for work created by an artist, an artist collective or DAO using an autonomous, non-human system, including but not limited to algorithmic art, synthetic media (any algorithmically-generated media) as well as systems using chemistry, biology, mechanics and robotics, smart materials, manual randomisation, mathematics or data mapping) – $1,000
➜ BCS Futures Award (for work that explores future relationships between society and technology including but not limited to the use of A.I., robotics, biotech and sustainable tech) – $1,000
➜ Global Majority Award (for art created with technology by an artist or collective from Africa, Latin America or the developing economies of Asia and the Middle East or holding passports from these countries) – $1,000
➜ Nordic Award (for art created with technology by an artist or collective from Nordic Countries including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands or holding a passport from these countries) – $1,000
➜ Student Award (for art created with technology by a student currently enrolled in a degree programme) – $500
➜ Crypto Art Award (for work by an artist, artist collective or DAO that represents the cutting edge of the blockchain ecosystem, including but not limited to works that demonstrate sophisticated use of blockchain technology, creative implementation of the non-fungible token format and cross-disciplinary projects) – $1,000
➜ HUA Award 華艺数奖 (for art created with technology by a Chinese artist or collective living and working in China) – $1,000

Entry fees

The entry fee starts from $32 during the Early bird entries (3rd March — 24th March 2023) period and varies based on the number of entries. The base fee covers two entries.
The Student Award is free to enter and a total of 100 entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
