DC Shorts is proud to announce 13th year of its DC Shorts Screenplay Competition 2020, the largest short film event on the East Coast that invites all filmmakers worldwide to participate.
About Competition
The DC Shorts Screenplay Competition 2020, the largest short film event on the East Coast, is now open for entries!
Submission requirements:
Screenplays in every genre and subject matter is accepted for entries. However, because the finalists are read in front of a live audience, the judging committee looks for material that can be successfully conveyed to a general audience in a table reading.
Scripts must not be in production. The purpose of the competition and award money is to foster the creation and successful completion of an independent short film. All film/video shooting must take place after the award presentation.
Screenplays must have been completed after January 1, 2019.
Screenplays must be uploaded as Acrobat .PDF and NOT exceed 15 pages in length, excluding cover page.
All non-English language screenplays must be translated and submitted in English.
Scripts must NOT have been previously submitted. Scripts submitted to the competition must NOT have been previously optioned, purchased or produced at the time of entry.
Each script is read in its entirety and scored by each reader for strength of plot, originality, writing proficiency, ability to be produced on a budget of less than $10K, ability to be successfully read, performed, and understood by a live audience, and other values.
Five to seven screenplays will be featured at the competition on Friday, September 18, 2020 in which the screenwriters must attend, and cast a live reading of the script from a bank of actors and directors.

• Earlybird Deadline – December 31, 2019 - $45
• Regular Deadline – February 28 , 2020 - $60
• Late Deadline – March 31, 2020 - $70
• Extended Deadline – April 30, 2020 - $85
