14th Bucharest International Jazz Competition 2020 now is over!
Now in its 14th year, the Bucharest International Jazz Competition, one of the most appreciated jazz events has opened registration for 2020 and all jazz instrumentalists and vocalists, no older than 40, are invited to participate.
About Competition
The 14th Bucharest International Jazz Competition, one of the most appreciated jazz events organised by jmEvents is now open for registration for 2020 inviting all bands and vocalists of all nationalities to participate.
Bucharest International Jazz Competition is one of the most appreciated jazz events, by specialists and the public, the event being ranked among the first 3 European jazz competitions. Over the years, the Bucharest International Jazz Competition has proved to be a promoter for jazz musicians and bands, not only in Eastern Europe but all over the world. Its mission is to contribute to the acknowledgment of jazz values and to celebrate creativity and freedom of expression. Bands may have up to 6 performing musicians and they may include:
• instrumentalists and vocalists,
• instrumentalists,
• vocalists.
1st Round - Selection of semi-finalists
The admissions panel and adjudicators will evaluate each application.
Recordings must have been made within the past 12 months.
The application must include 2-3 pieces of different style.
2nd Round - Semi-final on 11–17 May
• Semi-finalists will perform 50-60 minutes in the competition’s concert hall
• Semi-finalists will perform 50-60 minutes in an unconventional space
• Semi-finalists will perform 60-80 minutes in jam sessions Competitors have complete freedom in choosing their repertoire.
3rd Round - Final and Gala on 17-18 May
Finalists will perform 20-40 minutes.
The winner will be chosen by a jury composed of artists and teachers, personalities of the international jazz world.
Evaluation criteria:
• style / interpretation
• improvisation
• technique / diction / articulation
• musicality
• time and rhythm
• intonation
Between the 16th and 23rd of May 2020, Bucharest International Jazz Competition celebrates its 14th edition. The competition takes place during the International Festival EUROPAfest. It promises unforgettable meetings, thrilled audience, atmosphere, by combining concerts with jam sessions, workshops and jazz master-classes.
Entry fees:
The registration fee for one application / jazz band is 120 Euro.
Eligibility
All jazz instrumentalists and vocalists, no older than 40, are invited to participate. Applicants must be born after 1st of May 1979.
