The TDC Typeface Design Competition 2019, annual graphic design competition that highlight the world’s best typographic worki s currently open for entries seeking for the new typographic and typeface design from around the world.
About Competition
Type Directors Club(TDC) is pleasant to announce its 22nd Annual TDC Typeface Design Competition 2019 accepting work by designers from all around the world seeking for the new typographic and typeface design.
The Type Directors Club(TDC) is the leading international organization, created in 1946 to support excellence in typography, both in print and on screen.
Any new typeface designs produced or published between 1st January and 31st December, 2018 are eligible.
Entry categories for the 22nd competition include:
• Single Typeface
• Type Family
• Type Superfamily
• Text
• Display
• Type System
• Pi or Ornament
• Original Design
• Custom Design
• Revival
• Latin
• Global (Non-Latin)
Submission requirements:
• Entries are to be submitted as US Tabloid (portrait or landscape; 11×17 in. / 279×430 mm) or A3 (297×420 mm) unmounted paper proofs. Please ensure high enough print quality to judge your work appropriately. Each entry may include up to a maximum of 12 proof pages. Proofs may include, but are not limited to, headlines, short or long passages of text, sample pages or double-page spreads of book or magazine make-up, or multi-column text. Proofs should demonstrate how the typeface was designed to be used.
Extended or revised versions of older, previously published type designs are not eligible.
Only winners will be notified the week of February 4, 2019 by email.
Entries selected by the jury will receive Certificates of Typographic Excellence. They will be exhibited in the 65th TDC Exhibition and appear in Typography 40. The opening of TDC65 will be held in New York City and will be on display during the summer of 2019.
Entry fees for TDC Members start at $45(US) for single entries, $80(US) for Type Family entries and $150(US) for Superfamily entries. Higher entry fees apply for Non-members and late fees apply for entries submitted after 7th December 2018 and no later than 10th January 2018.
Eligibility
Typeface designs may be submitted by anyone involved in their design, production, or marketing. Typefaces created for the TDC, by or for the chair, jurors of the competition, or current members of the Board are not eligible for entering.
