2nd International Student Biennial of Art of Book [s]BUK2 now is over!

International Student Biennial of Art of Book [s]BUK2, now in its 2nd edition is calling for entries accepting submission from students and young artists, seeking for the books with high artistic range that push the boundaries.

About Competition

Students’ City Cultural Center (SCCC) in cooperation with the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade (FAA) and the Artget Gallery of Cultural Center of Belgrade opens an call for participation in the 2nd International Student Biennial of Art of Book [s]BUK2.

The Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, within the subject of Book Design, has been nurturing the art of book design for more than sixty years, and one of the important aspects are limited edition books, produced with particular care in all stages of production, with high artistic value. On this occasion, organiser would like to affirm and present the work of students in the field that is today again significant in the European art scene as well as in the education of young applied artists, and thus support and encourage the development of this specific field.

The art program of Students’ City Cultural Center, as a partner institution in this cooperation, is aimed primarily at affirming the work of who enter the contemporary art scene and who in their research approach the book medium in an innovative way. SCCC’s art program pays special attention to the field of book design through workshops and exhibitions, which have been organized since 2010 under the name “Extended Field (of the book as an art object)” in cooperation with the publishing house Kornet from Belgrade, and then through cooperation with FAA from Belgrade through the launch of the First International Student Biennial of Art of Book, [s]BUK1, 2018. The call is open in two categories:

❶ BOOKS: limited edition books, non-mass produced books, books with high artistic range of research, books that push the boundaries of books;
❷ PHOTO BOOKS: limited edition books, non-mass produced books, books that use photography as a unique visual narrative, books that push the boundaries of a book by exploring the space of communication between two media – photographs and books.

Submission guidelines:

➜ The theme is free.
➜ You need to send up to 10 photographs that clearly represent all aspects of the work (300 dpi resolution, 18 cm wider page, JPG without compression) or a video recording of the work not longer than 3 min (book being listed).
➜ Works which have been created during the last three years can be submitted to the competition.

The selection of works that will be exhibited at the exhibition of the second International Student Biennial of Art of Book [s]BUK2 will be decided on by a special jury for each category, when two awards (one for each category) will be awarded. The jury has the right to award special awards or commendations to the authors.

The exhibition of the International Student Biennial of Art of Book [s]BUK2 will be organized from November 7th to November 20th, 2020 at the Gallery of Students’ City Cultural Center, where books from the first category will be exhibited, and from November 10th to December 3rd at the Artget Cultural Gallery of Cultural Center of Belgrade, which will present works from the second call category. The exhibition will be accompanied by workshops and lectures. Students’ City Cultural Center bears the cost of printing a bilingual catalog. When returning works, the organizers will send an exhibition catalog together with the works.
