The 5th International Contest “Stop Censorship! Citizens for Free Countries” 2018 is held by activists of the NGO Center UA with a goal to encourage active citizens, journalists, people of creative fields to join a socially important discussion this year themed ’Women. Equality. Politics’
About Competition
The 5th International Contest Stop Censorship 2018 is an creative award and an interdisciplinary project that combines media, activism and various types of creative practices. The goal of the project is to encourage active citizens, journalists, people of creative fields to join a socially important discussion in order to increase awareness and prepare the ground for the research, discussion, and adoption of progressive political decisions.
This creative award is devoted to the topics of freedom of speech protection, access to information, and countering censorship as well as a special topic, which is determined by the organizers in accordance with the recent socio-political processes in Ukraine and in the world.
This year’s special topic of the contest is "Women. Equality. Politics". According to the organizers, the theme will help to overcome stereotypes, through which the participation of women in political life has traditionally been silenced.
Works in five categories are eligible:
• image - photographs, posters, drawings reproductions or pictures.
• poem - rhymed literary forms
• slogan - short verbal forms that express an idea, a demand or a call to action
• text - essays, articles, or columns expressing the opinion of the author (up to 10 thousand characters)
• multimedia - musical forms, plays, event photo reports, slideshows, sculptural forms, object design in video forms
Each contestant can submit an unlimited number of works in different categories created specifically for the competition or created before, but relevant to one of the topics of the current Contest.
Participants have the right to submit only their own works. Participants who use someone else’s work or plagiarise will be disqualified.
Works are accepted in Ukrainian, Russian, or English.
Works are accepted from May 10 until July 15, 2018 (Kyiv time).
Works are evaluated by three juries: experts, civic activists, and Internet users. Expert and activists juries are formed by the organizing committee. Anyone can participate in the online voting.
The main jury and the special topic jury will pick nominees of the Contest during July 15 – July 20, 2018. The nominees will be revealed on July 21, 2018. The winners of the Contest will be revealed in September 2018 at the opening of the best works exposition.
There is no entry fees to partecipate.
Eligibility
The 5th International Contest Stop Censorship 2018 is open to everyone: citizens of Ukraine, foreign citizens, and stateless persons regardless of age or education.
