Architecture competition organised by 72 Hour Urban Action festival has opened its call for 2019, inviting individual or group applications by participants worldwide.

72 Hour Urban Action is the world’s first real-time architectural competition where international teams design, build, sleep and party together to generate public interventions in a limited space within a short time and on a tight budget.

In May 2019, Jena-Lobeda, Germany will host the newest edition of 72 Hour Urban Action. 120 participants coming from Germany and from around the world will design and build ten installations in ten different sites, in co-operation with the residents of Jena-Lobeda. This event will challenge local residents and international participants to collaboratively create public spaces in the district.

Ten mixed teams with ten different missions will take over ten sites with only three days and nights to design and build projects in response to local needs.

Participants will sleep in the International Public Space Camp in Lobeda, where a main fabrication hub and a public kitchen will provide them with all they require to rapidly create interventions in public space. Each team will receive a budget and the aid of local experts and neighbors to help them complete their mission on site and on time.

Each participating team will have 12 participants, coming from Germany and the rest of the world. All teams are composed by the festival organizers. When you apply you agree to work with new people.

Submission requirements:

• To apply complete the form on the official website and attach your portfolio and CV.

• Describe education, professional experience and passions. Anything can be included, as long as you feel it describes the applicant properly. Please send up to 2 pages per person. Please write only in English and German, and send PDF-files less than 5MB total.

Application is open to individuals and to groups of up to 6 people.

The criteria for selection are previous work, passions, skills and will to work in a team.

The results will be evaluated by a professional jury, with one team winning the First Prize. A People’s Choice Award will be decided by the residents of Lobeda. All projects will have the possibility to remain after the festival if the residents and municipality wish for them to stay.

Applicants will be privately notified the week of MARCH 11th, 2019. Applicants selected for participation will be publicly announced by the beginning of June.

There is no entry fee to participate!
