2018 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition

2018 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition now is over!
Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) is hosting its 2018 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition and recently has opened call for entries inviting to participate all students and engineering, design, and architecture professionals with intend to enlighten them about aluminum extrusions’ superior advantages and many applications.
About Competition
Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition 2018 recently organised by Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), invites participation by students and professionals worldwide.
The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), founded in 1950, is an international association and dedicated to helping manufacturers, engineers, architects, and others to discover why aluminum extrusion is the preferred material process for better products. AEC created The Extrusion Technology for Aluminum Profiles Foundation (ET Foundation) to develop, promote, provide, and fund education and research related to aluminum extrusion processes and technologies, as well as to further encourage interest in the field.
The ET Foundation: Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition is intended to enlighten students and engineering, design, and architecture professionals about aluminum extrusions’ superior advantages and many applications.
Designs must be original and make use of at least one extruded aluminum component. Multiple entries may be accepted. If any category yields no entries deemed by the judges to adequately address the competition’s criteria, a prize will not be awarded in that category.
Winning entries will be those that best demonstrate the benefits of aluminum extrusions - whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one - by achieving the following objectives:
• Creativity: innovative design, new application capability, methods to meet a new design challenge
• Practicality: ease of fabrication and assembly, cost-effectiveness, use of extruded aluminum over other materials or processes, will a typical size extrusion press be able to produce your shape? Refer to the Design Tips section for more information.
• Product/Process improvement: customization or improvement of extrusion processes, close tolerances, takes full advantage of extrusion capabilities to improve a product
• Market Potential: design/product marketability and likelihood of market success.
Winners of the 2018 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition – both Student and Professional Classes – will be announced at the Extrusion Design University – EDU ’18 event scheduled for 14–16 May, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.
