“BRIDGING” Yongxin Old City Wenxing Bridge International Design Competition now is over!
The “BRIDGING” Yongxin Old City Wenxing Bridge International Design Competition, recently opened for entries and organised by UED Magazine invites all young designers, artists, teams of teachers and students worldwide in the fields of planning, architecture, landscape, art and intelligent design to participate.
About Competition
The “BRIDGING” Yongxin Old City Wenxing Bridge International Design Competition organised by UED Magazine, now is calling for entries!
Yongxin County People’s Governmentand CBC (China Building Centre) jointly initiated “Rediscover Yongxin” Old City Renewal Plan. Taking the features and culture of Yongxin Old City as the carrier, guided by design, culture and art, Yongxin Old City has carried out practical operation to solve difficulties as well as future-oriented renovation and transformation through events, communities and industries.
As an important renewal zone in the “Rediscover Yongxin” Old City Renewal Plan, Yongxin Old City Wenxing Bridge International Design Competition focus on “Bridging”.
The competition of “BRIDGE-COMPLEX” is not only a research and exploration of the function and format of “bridge”, but also a practice of urban public space renewal. The competition requires to focus on the contemporary sociality and urbanity of “bridge”, and emphasizes the research and expression of the relationship among “bridge, building and city”.
Therefore, the competition strives to create a new landscape, new landmark and new image of Yongxin Old City with novel forms and multiple functions through innovative designs, so as to provide new focus, new desire and new experience for residents and visitors of the old city. Meanwhile, the competition was taken as an opportunity to continue the context of the old city, foresee future constructions of the urban area, promotes further upgrading of the old city, creates a repair sample that integrates both banks and roots in the ground, as well as triggers the thinking and discussion of the contemporary concept of “bridge” and the urban renewal mode.
About Yongxin
As an old city with a history for thousands of years, Yongxin embodies its unique gene of “rich humanity, red history and beautiful ecology”.
The site is located at the Xianggan Wharf of the old city on the north bank of Heshui River, across Heshui River, and connects to Style Commercial Street Area on the south bank as well as riverside landscape belts and blocks on both sides. The bridge is about 150 meters long. This competition not only aims to connect the physical space on both sides of the river, but also focus on connecting the old city culture and people’s life, linking the new and old urban areas, and activating the blocks and landscape belts on both sides of the river.
Submission requirments:
➜ The panel size shall be A0 format (1189mm x 841mm), landscape orientation, 2 panels required for each submission. Provide panels that can fully express the creative intention of the work, such as general layout, renderings, plan, elevation, section drawing, enlarged key drawing and diagrams, etc., as well as design description (combined within the panel) of about 500 words, there are no limits on the scale and effect of all drawings on panel. If there are physical models, photos of the physical models can be included.
➜ Appended materials (Design Texts, videos, model etc.) can be submitted as auxiliary instructions of the design.
Registration Deadline close on September 1st, 2020 but you can submit your project until September 15th, 2020.
There is no entry fee to participate!
Eligibility
The competition is open to young designers, artists, teams of teachers and students worldwide in the fields of planning, architecture, landscape, art and intelligent design. Meanwhile, interdisciplinary professionals and practitioners are also encouraged to participate. Individual or team competitors are both acceptable.
Prize
➜ 1st Prize - (1 Team) Honor Certificate + Bonus 300,000 RMB (around 42,000 USD)
➜ 2nd Prize - (1 Team) Honor Certificate + Bonus 200,000 RMB (around 28,000 USD )
➜ 3rd Prize - (1 Team) Honor Certificate + Bonus 100,000 RMB (around 14,000 USD)
The prize-winning works will have the opportunity to be implemented in Yongxin County, in-depth design fee will be paid separately.
