DESIGNSTART - Your Apulian Story now is over!
The organization REDESIGN recently has launched international call titled “your Apulian story” inviting all creative persons under 35 to participate to have a chace to be hosted in an artist-in-residence program in Puglia and will be part of a creative experimentation process in order to design some objects or a line of products that can tell a story about Puglia, to be presented during Milan Design Week 2019.
About Competition
The organization REDESIGN, winner of PIN - Innovative Puglia, an initiative promoted by Puglia region, proposes the project DESIGNSTART and the international call “your Apulian story”: the call aims to select two creative persons under 35 that will be hosted in an artist-in-residence program in Puglia and will be part of a creative experimentation process in order to design some objects or a line of products that can tell a story about Puglia, to be presented during Milan Design Week 2019 and to be launched on the market later on.
Organiser are looking for students and/or young professionals in the field of design, graphics, architecture, illustration, as well as artisans, artists and creative people in general, aged 18 y. minimum and 35 y. Maximum, who may be interested in a great experience in the design and artisanal field. There are nospecific academic and / or professional requirements, that still are taken into consideration, but particular attention is put to a strong motivation to participate in the project.
To apply the candidates are required to present: Curriculum Vitae, portfolio, motivation letter and sand it by email to redesignstart@gmail.com.
Participants can only apply as singles, pair or group applications are not allowed.
Participants will be evaluated according to the academic and / or professional path, considering above all the ability to interpret the spirit and the aims of the project, expressed through the motivation letter. Two designers will be selected, who will be able to access the artistic residency phase and take part in the project.
Once the congruence of the profile with the requirements and the purpose of the project is checked, organiser will send you the confirmation of your application. Then you will receive an invitation to finalize your application proceeding with the payment of €15 as for the membership fee.
Artist in residence
In the first phase the winners will be involved in exploration and study activities: visits to artisan workshops and creative companies operating in Puglia region and included in Redesign network, educational excursions, meetings and experimental laboratories. They will participate in cultural and artistic events, as well as tastings and sensory experiences in order to immerse themselves in the culture and philosophy of the region.
Following the exploratory and cognitive process, designers will be asked to imagine and represent their own Apulian story, which will combine the experience and the sensations with traditional know-how and innovative spirit. In the design phase, a key role will be played by the mentors and the partner companies, chosen by the designers themselves for the realization of their projects.
The prototyping of the projects will follow and, in April, the manufactured items will be exhibited during the Milan Design Week, coinciding with the Salone del Mobile 2019 taking place in Lecce from January to April 2019 in order to give visibility to the young designers participating in the program. The final goal is to develop a platform that gathers and tells about Apulian design firms, artisans, artists and that may become an e-shop of the design made in Puglia (Italy). After the event, together with industry experts, the launch on the market and the commercialization of the products conceived will be studied.
There is no a participation fee to pay, only the 2019 REDESIGN membership card, equal to €15.
Eligibility
This international call is open to all creatives aged 18- 35 years who want to have an unusual and profound experience, that can lead them to discover the territory of Puglia intimately.
