Festival Platform Award is an open call for entries recently organised in liaison with the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival that accepting works from all worldwide completed between 30 November 2019 and 20 October 2020.
About Competition
The 24th Japan Media Arts Festival now is calling for entries completed between 30 November 2019 and 20 October 2020, for the Festival Platform Award.
Organizations in liaison with the Japan Media Arts Festival, call for new exhibition plans that utilize the characteristics of its facilities and award brilliant works.
During the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival there will be an open call for a work to be shown on the Globe-like display at Miraikan – The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
Categories
This year’s competition categories include: Geo-Cosmos and Dome Theater.
Geo-Cosmos Category
For this category, the organizers solicit video works and application programs designed for screening and viewing from multiple viewpoints on Geo-Cosmos, the signature exhibition of Miraikan — The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
Dome Theater Category
For this category, the organizers solicit video works and application programs designed for screening in Dome Theater GAIA at Miraikan.
Submission requirements
➜ Works completed or released between November 30, 2019 and October 20, 2020, or new works created for the spherical exhibitions at Miraikan
➜ Works for spherical surfaces or domes
➜ Video works, or application programs capable of real-time video creation that can be projected onto a screen
Evaluation Criteria
➜ Concept - Does the work capture and incorporate the video image concept?
➜ Expression - Is the video expression polished and aesthetically pleasing?
➜ Technology - Does the work account for the respective characteristics of Geo-Cosmos or the Dome Theater?
➜ Originality - Does the work incorporate the artist’s distinct viewpoint in an appealing way?
➜ Viability - Can the work be completed in a manner suited to the designated format?
Announcement of a ward winning works is scheduled for March 2021.
Eligibility
All artists around the world, without distinction as to professional, amateur, independent, or commercial, are invited to submit their works.
Prize
The winner in each competition category will receive a certificate, trophy, and prize money up to 500,000 JPY.
