Illustraciencia - International Award On Scientific Illustration 2018 now is over!
The 6th edition of illustration competition, Illustraciencia - International Award On Scientific Illustration 2018, has been recently organised by The National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC) and the Catalan Association of Scientific Communication (ACCC) open worldwide to all teams and individuals aged over 18 years old.
About Competition
Interntional illustration competition, Illustraciència 2018 organised by the National Museum of Natural Sciences and the Catalan Association of Science Communication, now in its 6th edition, aims to disseminate the importance of science illustration and pushes it in all its forms, supporting science illustrators and rewarding them through the convening of the International Award on Scientific Illustration.
This illustration competition emerged in 2009 with the intention of supporting, rewarding and disseminating the work of professionals in scientific and naturalistic illustration, will once again bring together the participants’ illustrations, made between 2017 and 2018.
The objective of Illustraciènciais to create a traveling exhibition. It will be inaugurated at the MNCN (National Museum of Natural Sciences) and will visit other museums and cultural spaces bringing science closer to society. A virtual catalog of the exhibition will also be created and courses, workshops and parallel activities will be organized.
There are two categories:
• Science
• Nature
Each participant is able to submit only a single work. The work must have been created between January 2017 and June 20th, 2018. The subject of the illustrations must be related to science or nature and the technique is free.
The measure of the illustration must be A3 (420 x 297mm) 72 DPI in RGB and it should not include watermarks or texts (except signatures, numbers or figure letters and symbols). The participation form will include a text in Spanish, Catalan or English of (100-150 words) that explains, in addition to the species or element, some curiosity or characteristic shown in the illustration.
The 40 selected have to send the illustration adapted to be printed size A3 (420 x 297mm) 300 DPI in CMYK.
The proposed works can be sent from April 23 to June 20, 2018 through the website www.illustraciencia.info. The 40 works selected by jury will be published on the web on July 16, the date on which the voting of the public will begin, which will last until the 23rd of the same month. The two winners will be announced on July 24.
From among all received proposals, the jury will select for their scientific accuracy, clarity, originality and information capacity the 40 works that will take part in an exhibition from October to December 2018.
The jury will also select the winning proposal, the winners of the training awards and up to 5 special awards to the most outstanding works. The Audience Award will be made through popular vote on a Facebook application.
There is no entry fee for this competition.
