Joseph Binder Award 2018 now is over!
Illustration competition Joseph Binder Award 2018 organised by designaustria is now open for entry inviting all designers and illustrators around the world, including students, to participate with their best works.
About Competition
The Joseph Binder Award, an international illustration competition held every two years, with a focus on graphic design and illustration was launched for the first time in 1996 by designaustria, the interest organization and knowledge centre for design in Austria.
This competition is named after one of the most outstanding graphic designers and illustrators active in Austria between the two World Wars, who subsequently also revolutionized visual communication in the United States.
»Colour and form are inseparable« – the motto of this year’s call for entries is borrowed from one of Joseph Binder’s quotes, which inspired the graphic designers of the studio Bruch–Idee&Form from Graz in their design for the visual appearance of JBA18. Joseph Binder’s motto was: "In design, everything has a function. Design has a representational function. Design has a communicational function. Design has a motivational function."
The entries will be assessed by an international jury in twelve categories:

• Poster Design
• Editorial Design
• Packaging Design
• Screen Design
• Book Illustration
• Media Illustration
• Commercial Illustration
• Illustration in Miscellaneous Applications
Moreover, there is also a Special Category for unpublished works, independent/ non-commercial projects, unreal-ised concepts, student projects, etc. in all disciplines.
Submited works need to be realized in 2016 and after by 28 February (early bird) or 15 April 2018.
Participation is open to both individuals and teams. The number of entries is not limited.
Early bird deadline is 28 February 2018 (10% discount on entry fee), regular deadline is 15 April 2018.

This competition is open to all graphic designers, illustrators, and students enrolled in relevant courses from all over the world.
