Luis Valtueña Photography Award 2018 now is over!
Once again, Médicos del Mundo has opened the call for its 22st Luis Valtueña Humanitarian Photography Award inviting amateur and professional photographers from around the world to participate with intent to denounce the situation of millions of people in the World.
About Competition
This is the 22nd consecutive year in which Doctors of the World Spain (Médicos del Mundo España) has conducted the Luis Valtueña Humanitarian Photography Award, initiated to denounce the situation of millions of people in the World and bring attention to human rights violation, social exclusion, armed conflicts, natural disasters and immigration.
This award comes as a tribute to and in recognition of Luis Valtueña, Flors Sirera, Manuel Madrazo, and Mercedes Navarro, Médicos del Mundo aid workers killed in Rwanda in 1997 and in Bosnia in 1995 while performing their duties as international humanitarian aid workers. Their memory serves to ensure that each year victims of injustice are brought to light, give them a voice through your gaze.
The photographs must narrate or tell a story related to these topics:
• Humanitarian action
• International cooperation
• Social exclusion
• Human rights violations
• Armed conflicts
• Natural disasters
• Refugee and immigrant populations
• Socially excluded groups
Guidlines:
Each participant can submit a maximum of 10 photographs, which can be different or part of a series. The photographs may be in black and white or colour. Only photos taken between January 2017 and October 2018, and which have not been previously entered, will be accepted.
Photographs must be sent in digital format with a minimum resolution of 300 ppi/ppp in the format JPEG with RGB color profile. The images should be in of high-quality compression and with the minimum size being 40cm on the shortest side.
The digital image’s original structure can only be manipulated through darkroom techniques such as adjusting the brightness, contrast and color, underexposure and overexposure. No other change to the original digital image will be allowed. Only single frame photos will be accepted.
Photomontages and multiple exposures will be excluded from the competition. In case of doubt about a possible digital alteration of the image, beyond what is allowed in the conditions of entry, the organization reserves the right to request from participants to supply the original unretouched photo file as recorded by the camera, or a scanned copy of any unaltered negative or slide.
The judging panel, made up of leading photographers and MdM-Spain representatives, will meet 45 days after the submission deadline in order to select the winners. After meeting and coming to a decision, the panel will announce the winner of the project grant (at least three finalists), as previously mentioned. The work of these successful entrants will feature in the travelling exhibition.
The awards ceremony will be held at a public event during January or February 2019.
