Open Call 2018 - Artists in Residence - AADK Spain now is over!

AADK Spain is accepting application for its 2018 residency program inviting artists and researchers from all disciplines who wish to produce works related to AADK’s primary lines of research emphasizing the idea of “Spatiality” in 2018.

About Competition

AADK Spain is an international artistic platform, based in Blanca, Murcia, to develop projects of research and contemporary art creation. It was founded in 2012 by performance artist Abraham Hurtado as a continuation of international artistic network AADK (Aktuelle Achitektur Der Kultur).

The headquarters of AADK Spain is Centro Negra – a space where it implements different programmes focused on process and experimentation such as the Residency Program.

Residency program is a space for experimentation and dialogue where confronting the artists with their ideas and finding the deeper meanings of their work. Process based and focused, they challenge the artists to experiment and take risks, sharing their doubts, and trials.
They invite residents to work at the intersection of art, social sciences, and local communities. Connecting the topics with the context, AADK Spain supports cultural decentralization and access to contemporary art in the rural areas, integrating the town of Blanca and its surroundings in the development of the artworks.

The abandonment of the historical centre (an area adjacent to the Centre), the aging of the population due to a lack of activities and opportunities for the young, the difficulties in integration of different communities, and the reduced access to contemporary culture within rural areas, are some of the major problems that the Spanish town Blanca faces.

AADK Spain invites applicants to explore these concerns within the context of Centro Negra and its unique location.

The call is currently open for residencies from January through to June, 2018.
