Portrait of Britain 2018 now is over!
British Journal of Photography, organiser of the 3rd edition of Portrait of Britan, the nation’s biggest photography exhibition seen by millions of people country wide, invites photographers of any level to submit portraits that capture the many faces of modern Britain.
About Competition
British Journal of Photography invites submissions to the 3rd edition of Portrait of Britan, a nationwide photography exhibition in partnership with JCDecaux UK that shows the many faces of modern Britain.
Portrait of Britain is the nation’s biggest photography exhibition seen by millions of people country wide. This is the largest exhibition of contemporary photography ever held, as much a celebration of photography as it is a celebration of British people, calling for pictures that reflect their unique culture and diversity.
You are welcome to submit pictures from every corner of Britain and in every form, from casual snapshots and selfies, to documentary projects. Photographers may submit portraits of family, friends, themselves, or simply people they find interesting.
Entries are open to all people and all interpretations of portraiture, provided images have been taken within the United Kingdom since 1 January 2012 and depict subjects living in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland) at the time of the photograph. Portraits may be of individuals or groups of people.
You may enter as many times as you choose. Portraits can be shot using any camera model (film or digital), and images may be portrait, landscape or square in format. Each image can be a maximum of 5MB in size. All images must be submitted as JPEG files – any files submitted in any other format (including TIFF, PDF, PSD etc) will be discarded. You may submit a short statement for each photograph entered. Statements must be under 1500 characters in length (approximately 200 words), and written in English.
The winners must be available to supply high-res files promptly for publication. Digital files of the winning images will be created for press and publicity purposes.
The deadline for entries is 1 May 2018 – 11am BST, and judging will take place shortly after the deadline.
The exhibition will run on JCDecaux digital screens in September 2018 across the United Kingdom, appearing in rail, retail and roadside locations.
Entry fee for 1 single image cost £10, for up to 3 images entry fee is £25, instead for up to 10 images cost £35.

This exhibition is open worldwide to working photographers. Professional and non-professional photographers of all ages are eligible to enter. Both UK based and international photographers are welcome to enter.
