The Redress Design Award (formerly the EcoChic Design Award), the largest sustainable fashion design award organised by Redress, recently opened for 2018 working to educate emerging fashion designers around the world about sustainable design theories and techniques in order to drive growth towards a circular fashion system.
About Competition
In 2018, after seven highly successful cycles, this fashion design award and competition re-launched with a fresh new look and name change: Previously known as the EcoChic Design Award, the new Redress Design Award directly reflects the work of Redress itself and their overarching mission to reduce textile waste and ultimately fuel a circular system for fashion.
The Redress Design Award 2018 is now open globally to emerging designers and students with less three years’ professional experience.
Redress is a pioneering Hong Kong based NGO working to reduce textile waste in the fashion industry. They achieve this through a variety of dynamic programmes which work to minimise the negative impacts of fashion, whilst promoting innovative new models and driving growth towards a more sustainable industry via the circular economy. Working directly with a wide range of stakeholders, including designers, manufacturers, brands, educational bodies, government and consumers, they aim to create lasting environmental change in fashion.
In a year which is widely marked as a critical tipping point for consumers, designers and brands to incorporate sustainability across the fashion value chain, the 2018 cycle of the world’s largest sustainable design competition has expanded to a truly global search for emerging talent. Amidst ongoing industry pressures to produce more clothes at less cost, the Redress Design Award continues to shine a light on the push for sustainability, andward the growing power of the circular economy, whilst championing emerging talent to fuel this new future for fashion.
Applicants are tasked to design a sustainable collection that re-claims unwanted textiles in unexpected ways and they must source 100 percent textile waste for their competition collections. In addition to this, designers must incorporate one or more of the three core sustainable design techniques of zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction in their designs.
