Schindler Global Award (SGA) 2018/2019

Schindler Global Award (SGA) 2018/2019 now is over!
The Schindler Global Award (SGA) 2018, urban design competition that encourages students to put their skills to the test, this year is focused on the impact and implications of current and future mobility systems on urban development in one of the most globally significant cities Mumbai.
About Competition
The Schindler Global Award (SGA) 2018, student urban design competition, held under the leadership of the Schindler Group and focused on mobility, understood as a key driver of desirable change in urban areas around the world, has been recently announced and scheduled for mid-July 2018, with entries due at the end of January 2019.
This time this urban design competition will focus on the impact and implications of current and future mobility systems on urban development in one of the most globally significant cities - Mumbai, India.
As the second largest city in the world, Mumbai presents many challenges, offering participating students the chance to engage with spatial, social and strategic topics. Mumbai requires integrated and sustainable urban systems that make the benefits of the city accessible to all its inhabitants. The megacity is also a benchmark for South Asia and beyond. How it approaches continuing growth and manages development processes is relevant at every scale, from neighborhood to national and global.
The trends of urban population growth and increasing global interconnectivity continue. Cities are under pressure to be sustainable high-quality living environments that offer everyone access to the possibility of a better life. Architects, landscape architects, urban designers and planners all have a hand in creating fundamentally important design-based responses to the challenges of the contemporary city.
This competition asks students to put their skills to the test and participate in thestrong> making of livable and sustainable urban environments – with mobility in mind. Mobility systems move people, goods and ideas over road and rail, sea and air, and through neighborhoods, regions and the world. Mobility is a catalyst and a conduit for globalization and urbanization – and for the creation of better lives and neighborhoods.
Three key concepts are part of the Global Schindler Award Competition:
• Shared Global Responsibility
• Future Cities
• Urban Through Mobility
The Schindler Global Award is an ideas competition. The objective of an idea competition is to procure conceptual proposals or solutions, which are only generally circumscribed and defined, without the intention realizing the project. In this regard the aim of the Schindler Global Award is to further promote the training of students in their discipline of study and thus the promotion of young architects, designers and planners. The Schindler Global Award dose not lead to a commission and it dose not imply any kind of further work or contact arrangements.
Participation in the competition gives students a platform for knowledge sharing, comparison and recognition. Through the use of the open competition format, common in professional design practice, students have the opportunity to gain career-oriented skills and contact with internationally renowned practitioners and experts.
With over 100’000 US$ in prizes and a jury of international experts and practitioners, the Schindler Global Award gives the students of today a chance to contribute to the cities of tomorrow.
