Type Directors Club is pleased to announce that TDC65 The World’s Best Typography competition is now open and accepting entries from all over te word.
About Competition
The Type Directors Club, the leading international organization whose purpose is to support excellence in typography, both in print and on screen, recently has announced its call for entries for the 65th Annual Communications Design and the 22nd Typeface Design Competitions, a celebration of the world’s best typography.
TDC65 includes competitions for Communication Design and Typeface Design. As a new addition this year, organizer were created a student category for the Typeface Design competition, in addition to their existing student category for Communication Design. Both of these student competitions award monetary prizes.
It’s accepted work in the Communication Design competition in a broad range of categories — movie titles, digital media, apparel, logos, exhibition design, and experimental work. Whatever excellent work you are doing with letters and type, will have an opportunity to win. Entries must have been produced or published during 2018. You are welcome to submit single entry or a Series/Campaign Entry, 2 but not more than 6 typographically and conceptually related pieces in one category for the same event, product or subject matter, such as posters, ads, booklets, television commercials, packaging, etc. Entries may be submitted in one of two areas: Print or Digital Media.

Separately, the Typeface Design Competition invites you to enter your best type design work, from single fonts through superfamilies. Any new typeface designs produced or published between
Students are welcome to enter either personal or paid work (work NOT created for a class assignment) into the Communication Design Competition in the Professional category or the 22nd Annual Typeface Design Competition. All student entries are entered in the student category and will be judged by the Communication Design Judges and judged side-by-side with the professional entries.
An international jury of type designers, graphic designers, art directors, and illustrators will select the winning entries. Entries selected by the jury will receive Certificates of Typographic Excellence. They will be exhibited in the 65th TDC Exhibition, and appear in Typography 40. The opening of TDC65 will be held in New York City and will be on display during the summer of 2019. Winners will be asked to supply digital files of the winning entries for use in Typography 40. Winners will also be asked to supply eight additional copies of winning entries for use in exhibitions outside New York.
Only winners from a both categories will be notified the week of February 4th, 2019 by email.
An Early Bird discount on entries is available through October 19, but regular entries are accepted until December 7. After that, they will accept late entries (at higher fees) until January 11, 2019. Discounts are also available to residents of countries that are often under-represented in the international design community.
