Bee Breeders, in partnership with ARCHHIVE BOOKS, is calling for essay submissions for their second print publication “What is Small-Scale Architecture?” which is planned for release in Spring 2020.
Pavilions. Shelters. Backyard studios. Outdoor toilets. Playgrounds and play structures. Treehouses. Phone booths. Chapels. Meditation spaces...Even the smallest projects can contain big ideas. Sometimes these ideas, such as new explorations in materials and form, can have significant influences on the practice of architecture. Architects, startups, investors, entrepreneurs, and companies are inventing new means for designing small spaces that enrich lives. All of these ideas fall within the wide-ranging topic of small-scale architecture. Do you have an idea or something to say about small-scale architecture? Guidelines:
Bee Breeders will accept submissions of all kinds, written or illustrative, that can fit on a single page or a two-page spread, to be included in its print publication. Submissions can be historical, present, or prospective. They can be data-centric, analytical, fictional, critical, or conceptual. Organizer are interested in reviewing submissions from participants related to any field or discipline.
Submission requirements:
• This print publication will be formatted in portrait orientation, A4 sheet size.
• Submissions are to fill a maximum one spread. Images or graphics should be formatted in portrait orientation to fit a single A4 page, or formatted to be split on 2 x A4 facing portrait-oriented sheets in a spread.
• All submissions must be digital:
- Text submissions, including footnotes, citations, and illustration notes, must be submitted digitally in .doc format. - Images must be submitted in .jpeg or .tiff formats, 300dpi, and CMYK.
- Vector-only graphics should be submitted in .pdf formats. Should submissions be selected for print, .ai or .eps files may be requested.
- No video files are accepted.
Registration period close on 20 November, 2019, but you can submit your project until 01 December, 2019, (11:59pm GMT+0).
Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum).
Consultative jury will select 40 shortlisted from all submitted entries, after that core jury panel will evaluate the 9 finalists and select the top 3 winning projects and 6 honorable mentions.
The winners will be announced on 06 January, 2019.
Entry fees:
• Early Bird Registration (August 20 - September 12) is US $20, instead for a students is US $15.
• Advance Registration (September 13 - October 11) is US $25, instead for a students is US $20.
• Last Minute Registration (October 12 - November 20) is US $30, instead for a students is US $25.
Eligibility
Competition is open to all. No professional qualification is required. Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum).
