Yilan Chair Design Competition 2017 now is over!
The Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau and Lanyang Cultural and Educational Foundation are hosting thenew design contest 2017 Yilan Chair Design Competition and the challenge is to create educative and entertaining chairs designed specifically for children.
About Competition
Design contest hosted by The Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau and Lanyang Cultural and Educational Foundation for 2017 titled Yilan Chair Design Competition invites submissions from anyone interested in design.
The Competition came about as a vehicle to convey the passion and hospitality of the people of Yilan as well as the natural beauty of the county’s mountain forests. The original idea was to use innovative design in a way that connected to nature and daily life, while also reflecting the county government’s long term vision of developing Yilan into a “children’s dreamland” and “city of innovation.” The event has also been used as a focal point for the development of cultural and creative industry producing furniture, stationary and toys.
The theme for 2017 is “Children’s Chair” and the challenge is to create educative and entertaining chairs designed specifically for children under 12 years of age.
The solicitation of works is divided into two categories: “Creative” (Group A) and “Practical” (Group B). In the “Creative” (Group A) category judges will be looking for children’s chairs that best relate the story of Yilan. The main objective in the “Practical” (Group B) category is to submit a work that can be mass produced and marketed.
Guideline:
1. Submitted works must contain “Yilan elements”
(Note: Yilan elements include figurative colors, shapes, art and craft skills, totems, text, and symbols related to Yilan; or abstract concepts such a historical texture, local spirit, cultural values, attitude to life etc.)
2. Submitted works must also correspond to the annual theme of the competition, in this instance they should be designed specifically for children.
Creative Category (Group A Requirements:
1.Works are intended for the use of pre-pubescent children under the age of 12, but are not limited to the use of one child.
2.Works must be educational and entertaining.
3.All design elements relating to dimensions, structure and materials must take into consideration the suitability of use by children.
4.Creative materials
• Materials should by predominantly natural (wood, bamboo, rattan, paper etc.)
• If other materials are used they should be environmentally friendly.
5.Work numbers
• There is no limit to the number of works an individual / team can submit.
• The focus should be the design of a single work or multiple works that make up a single set
Practical Category (Group B Requirements:
1.Works are intended for the use of pre-pubescent children under the age of 12, but are not limited to the use of one child.
2.The final retail price and cost analysis of the submitted work must be included as part of the evaluation by the jury panel.
3.All design elements relating to dimensions, structure and materials must take into consideration the suitability of use by children.
4.Creative materials
• Materials should by predominantly natural (wood, bamboo, rattan, paper etc.)
• If other materials are used they should be environmentally friendly.
5.Work numbers
• There is no limit to the number of works an individual / team can submit.
• The focus should be the design of a single work or multiple works that make up a single set
There is no entry fee for this competition!
Eligibility
All individuals with a passion for design irrespective of age, profession, place of residence or nationality are welcome to submit works. Individuals or teams can register to compete, though teams can have no more than three members.
