‘SITE CONVENT’ International Architecture Ideas Competition: ARKxSITE is very pleased to announce the ‘SITE CONVENT’ International Architecture Ideas Competition for architecture and landscape architecture students and young professionals under 40 years old.
About Competition
ARKxSITE once again is pleased to announce their international architecture ideas competition, this time under the theme ‘SITE CONVENT’.
This international one-stage architecture ideas competition invites all architecture students, young architects and young professionals with a degree in architecture studies (≤ 40 years old) to develop and submit compelling ideas for the design of a Site Convent located at the Penafirme Convent, Portugal.
The Site Convent is a refuge for solitude, remembrance and spiritual enlightenment, intimate spaces for reflection and contemplation. Together with the existing ruins and the ever changing sand dunes, the Site Convent offers a unique experience within this remarkable landscape; it is a mystical place and meditative sanctuary through memory, time and silence.
The Penafirme Convent is a place of great cultural heritage and historical significance with characteristics that must be fully preserved. The ruins of the Convent together with the sand dunes are prominent features within this setting.
When generating a vision for an intervention located within such a remarkable place, it is essential that each design proposal emphasises, respects and celebrates the site and existing ruins, while provide a unique and memorable experience.
There are no limitations in height or excavation. Spaces of the Site Convent can be open and / or enclosed to the natural elements. Because this is an ideas competition, urban planning and building regulations will not be applied to the design proposal.
Note! Resistration period ends May 23, 2022, but you can submit your work until May 28, 2022.
Submission requirements
➜ You need to submit a single digital panel 1 x A1 sized panel (84,1 cm x 59,4 cm), Landscape / Horizontal layout. The file need to be saved as JPG (RGB Color) and not larger than 5Mb. Recommended 300 dpi resolution. The JPG file may be compressed to a ZIP file format.
Evaluation Criteria
➜ Originality and quality of the proposals design vision
➜ Responsiveness of the proposalto the competition’s objectives
➜ Appropriateness to the site and it’s context
➜ Quality and clarity of the presentation
Results will be announced on July 29, 2022.
Eligibility
This international architecture ideas competition is open to all architecture students, young architects and young professionals with a degree in architecture studies (≤ 40 years old).

Entry fees
Entry fee is 60 Euros + VAT duing the Early Registration period (Feb 14, 2022 – Apr 15, 2022). After that period ends the amount of fee will increase.
