The Call for Entries titled Alexia Foundation 2018 Professional & Student Grants Competition is now open!
CALL FOR ENTRIES - The Alexia Foundation has recently started accepting applications for its 2018 Grant Competition offers production grants to students and professional visual journalists to help them produce projects that inspire change by addressing topics that are socially significant.
Alexia Foundation Grants were created nearly 30 years ago to support still photographers and that remains their primary mission. The Alexia Foundation awards grants to student and professional visual journalists to help them produce projects that inspire change by addressing topics that are socially significant.
Through grants, scholarships and special projects, The Alexia Foundation supports photographers as agents for change.
They recognize that the profession more and more calls for a diverse range of story forms. Therefore, while your submissions must have a set of still photographs, you may also submit other story forms as part of your grant application submission. Those may include audio, video, VR or any other visual format. There will be a spot on the submission site to post up to two links.
The Professional Alexia Grant is offered to enable professional photographers and visual journalists to produce substantial bodies of work that share the Foundation’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding.
Deadline for Professional Alexia Grant submission is 1 February 2018 at midnight Eastern U.S. Time.
The Student Alexia Grant is offered to enable current college student photographers to produce substantial bodies of work that share the Foundation’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding.
Applicants must be actively pursuing a graduate, undergraduate or associate degree in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or internationally at the time of the student deadline. You may not apply if you have graduated as of the end of 2016.
Student applicants are encouraged to consider proposing projects close to where they are.
Deadline for Student Alexia Grant submission is 1 March 2018 at midnight Eastern U.S. Time.
Winners will be announced early April, 2018. Judging takes place at strong>Syracuse University March 23 and 24 at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
There is no entry fee for students. Professionals are required to pay a $50 application fee within the application system on the official website.
Who can enter?
Photographers and visual journalists from any country may apply for this Grant. Proposals for projects that have already received grants or awards of more than $10,100 in the previous calendar year are not eligible. The Grant is made to an individual photographer; project proposals that involve multiple content producers will not be accepted – unless you also submit a motion piece with your still images. You must be the primary creator on motion pieces but may have produced the piece with a small support team.
One grant of $20,000 for the production of a proposed project will be awarded in the Professional category. The first place winning undergraduate and graduate entrant in the Student category will both receive a grant that is equivalent to a semester-long fellowship or residency at Syracuse University, plus a cash grant to help produce the proposed body of work.
