Barakaldo International Graphic Humour Contest 2017 now is over!
The 14th edition of graphic competition titled Barakaldo International Graphic Humour Contest is now open for entries for 2017 inviting all artists from different linguistic and geographical backgrounds.
This graphic competition are welcome to submit scene depicting graphic humour relating to new technologies which impacts on daily life (internet, biology, space, telecommunications, medicine, etc.) and which allows citizens to reflect on new spheres of scientific progress. It can also be vignettes depicting geek attitudes generated by users of social networks.
Works may be labelled in Spanish or Basque. Artists from different linguistic and geographical backgrounds can enter humorous scenes without text.
Scenes and characters must be the personal creation of the author and unpublished. Work can be submitted either in black and white or in colourDin-A4 (210mm x 297mm) dimension, either horizontally or vertically. Resolution will be not less than 300 dpi.
Participants are asked to propose a very brief and subtle story of about 50 words (plus or minus 10%), which completes the scenes elaborated by the artist.
Each contestant may submit up to 3 pieces of work
The jury will take into account the originality of the written production (the script), creativity (puns, irony, imagination) and grammatical quality of the work produced. Only those works that have correctly answered at least 4 of 5 questions will be pre-selected.
Prizes will be awarded according to the following criteria:
• Quality and artistic relevance of the work: 50 points.
• Adherence to the theme of the competition and to the humorous language pertaining to it: 30 points.
• Social and cultural impact of the cartoon in relation to the thematic aspect set out regarding new technologies and their implications for everyday life: 20 points.
