The aim of the contest is to envision the interaction with food in the future, keeping into consideration how important it has become for people to prepare healthy, convenient and perfectly made meals while having less and less time to dedicate to meal preparation. So far technology has played a central role in helping people in their daily lives, making their tasks faster and easier, with great cooking results. What role will technology play in the future way of interacting with food preparation and preservation?
Thinking about the new home environments and the new users’ habits, design a product able to meet the Client requests.
For the correct realisation of your proposals, keep into consideration the following guidelines:
Context: not only devices change with time, but also people’s habits, household and their living environment. Also people’s attitude towards food preparation varies according to the person: 1) it can be a joyful experience, driven by a sense of self-confidence and pleasure in the act of preparing food, or 2) it can be a stressful situation, caused by the difficulty in defining what meal to prepare and by a rising sense of anxiety for not being able to prepare the meal in time and with the required quality level.
In addition, home layouts and spaces are also changing: try to envision how the kitchen layout is changing with time, accordingly think how your appliances will be part of it and how people will interact with them.
Your concepts shall be focused on these three main aspects:
- Food preparation
- Food preservation
Each of these aspects entails several steps and modalities, which you are invited to review, take into account and possibly rethink.
With your design try to address the following questions:
- How will customers interact with food in the future? Where will they perform this interaction inside the house?
- What kind of devices will people have in their future houses and how will they change the way they prepare meals, preserve and store food and clean everything in the end? Which new appliances will be needed? Which changes/improvements to current appliances can be done?
- How will these devices be different and better, in terms of improved ergonomics, increased automation, better cleanability, new functions and possibilities? How will they be integrated with the rest of the house? How will they make the process enjoyable and shared among users?
The concepts you are invited to design shall excel in terms of performance, usability, aesthetic and cleanability, providing the customers with an improved social enjoyment of their food experience.

Participation is free of charge and open to designers and creative talents of any nationality aged 18 years or older. Participants can present one or more projects, but only the projects published on the www.desall.com web site, via the upload page related to “Future Kitchen Experience” will be accepted.
The selection of the winner by the Client will be the result of an unquestionable evaluation and it will take into account originality, feasibility and consistency with the brief presented.
For the duration of the option right, the Client offers an extra chance to all participants setting a price of Euro 2,500 (one-thousand-five-hundred) for the purchase of the license for the economical exploitation of the projects not-acknowledged as the winning proposals.
