The competition comprises six distinct categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Environment, Animation (New), Student, and Future Format. Each category honors a winner and a shortlist of up to five exceptional filmmakers. For the 2024 edition, an exciting addition is the Animation category, designed to embrace diverse animation techniques, including stop-motion, motion graphics, computer animation, drawn-on-film, rotoscoping, and experimental animation. Entries to this category can span from 2 to 20 minutes in length.

Shortlisted filmmakers, who have demonstrated exceptional storytelling prowess, are invited to an exclusive four-day event in the vibrant city of Los Angeles.
