2022 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition

2022 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition now is over!

2022 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition: The 2022 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition hosted by Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and ET Foundation challenges students and professionals to think about aluminum extrusions as a holistic solution to a design problem by creating a product or system that includes at least one extruded aluminum component.

Short description

Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and ET Foundation are hosting 2022 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition, an international competition intended to enlighten students studying engineering, design, architecture and related fields and professionals about aluminum extrusions’ superior advantages and many applications.

AEC created The Extrusion Technology for Aluminum Profiles Foundation (ET Foundation) to develop, promote, provide, and fund education and research related to aluminum extrusion processes and technologies, as well as to further encourage interest in the field.

Students are challenged to think about aluminum extrusions as a holistic solution to a design problem by creating a product or system that includes at least one extruded aluminum component. Think beyond the ordinary to come up with unique, original designs and resourceful uses for aluminum extrusion. Show off your talent, ingenuity and creativity by designing components, systems, products or product assemblies that feature at least one extruded aluminum profile and highlight extrusion’s many advantages

Professional designers and engineers will compete in a separate competition class.

A panel of aluminum extrusion industry professionals will judge the competition entries in Spring 2022 using the following criteria as a guide:

Creativity – Innovative design, new or expanded application capability, methods to meet a new design challenge.
Practicality – Ease of fabrication and assembly, cost-effectiveness, integrated or multi-functionality, use of extruded aluminum over other materials and/or processes.
Product /Process Advantage – Product/process improvement: product design versatility or customization capability, improvement of extrusion processes, close tolerances, takes full advantage of extrusion’s abilities to improve a product
Market Impact/Potential – Product design marketability, clearly identified product use(s) within the target market, and likelihood of market success.

Winning entries will be displayed at ET '22 - the aluminum extrusion industry's most important technical conference - May 3-5, 2022, in Orlando, Florida.

Who may enter?

The Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition is open to both students and professional designers and engineers. Individual and team entries will be accepted. Students must currently be enrolled in high school, university, trade or design school to be eligible.

Prize:

The Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition provides scholarship awards ($15,500) for top designs from students and cash awards ($8,000) for the extrusion application designs from professional product designers and engineers, and a $3,500 Grand Prize to the best design regardless of competition class.
