Contextile 2022 Contemporary Textile Art Biennial: The 6th edition of CONTEXTILE – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial has been recently announced for entries inviting all artists, national and internationally, to present artworks for selection to the International Exhibition, integrated in the programme of its 6th Edition, Contextile 2022 – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial.
Short description
CONTEXTILE invites all artists, national and internationally, to present artworks for selection to the International Exhibition, integrated in the programme of its 6th Edition, Contextile 2022 – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial, which will take place in the city of Guimarães, Portugal, from the 3rd September to the 30th October 2022.
The Biennial is recognized as an international reference in the ambit of contemporary textile art. But, it is also an unique cultural and artistic event, that transforms Guimarães, and the Vale do Ave region, into the epicentre of a process of interaction and connection between artists, creators, communities, industry and territories, thus contributing to the strengthening processes of the identity of the place, encouragement to creativity and innovation and valorization of the textile culture.
CONTEXTILE 2022 will occupy the various cultural spaces and public areas of the city, always with the aim of promoting the best of what is done in contemporary textile art in Portugal and in the world and to encourage the artistic creation, using textile as reference.
The interested artists may apply with new creations or recent artworks. All artistic expressions in the visual arts disciplines will be accepted. The proposals and artworks submitted for the competition will have to be around the textile element, through its concept, theme, techniques or materials. The artworks will have to be highly creative, original and technically competent.
The International Competitive Exhibition will be composed by 50 artworks from 50 artists. Will also be accepted and selected 2 artworks for implementation in the outdoors (public space).
Who may enter?
Contextile 2022 – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial is open worldwide to textile artists, aged 18 years or over.
Prize:
The jury will award an Acquisition Prize of 6000 € and Honourable Mentions, at the moment of the biennial’s opening.
The 50 works of the international exhibition may also be selected for the ATP Acquisition prize and the ASM Acquisition prize, in the amount of 2500 € each.
