New design for sustainable Enel Secondary Substation

New design for sustainable Enel Secondary Substation now is over!
New design for sustainable Enel Secondary Substation: Enel Global Infrastructure Networks is looking for a new architectural concept design for a prefabricated secondary substation with innovative features in terms of design, materials, and construction, while incorporating the principles of sustainability and, in particular, a circular by design approach.
➜ Short description
Enel is looking for a new architectural concept design for a prefabricated secondary substation. The new secondary substation must have innovative features in terms of design, materials, and construction, while incorporating the principles of sustainability
and, in particular, a circular by design approach. The technical and product characteristics of the new design must ensure complete compliance with the technical and safety regulations currently in force for its use and installation, and must take into account the minimum dimensions necessary to house all the equipment normally found inside the structure.
Overview
Secondary substations are electrical infrastructures dedicated to the transformation of medium voltage to low voltage, and to the control and the protection of the electricity grid. The Challenge aims at identifying an innovative architectural design for a street-level secondary substation that features sustainable materials and is able to ensure the harmonious integration of the structure into the rural and urban contexts of use while retaining existing functionalities.
The challenge
The purpose of this Challenge is the creation of new sustainable architectural concepts dedicated to secondary substations. The primary goal of the Challenge is the creation of an innovative and sustainable architectural modular system that allows a high degree of versatility, a necessary requirement to adapt the buildings and architectural elements to the different contexts of use present in the area.
Given the great variety of environments wherein secondary substations are installed, the challenge provides three case-study sites to adopt as contexts of use for the development of the proposed solutions:
➜ urban contexts (large municipalities);
➜ semi-urban (small municipalities) or peripheral contexts;
➜ rural contexts.
The new design should be centered on the following key aspects:
1. Project modularity and replicability
2. Visual and sustainability impact
3. Communication
4. Sustainable materials and renewable energy
5. E-mobility promotion
6. Social inclusion
7. Lighting
The jury that will evaluate the proposal includes representatives of Enel (Global Infrastructure & Networks) and a number of high-level personalities from universities, institutions and the design and architecture field.
➜ Who may enter?
This Challenge is reserved to engineers, architects, designers, startups, scaleups and SMEs, industrials incorporated in any country, acting both as natural and/or legal persons.
➜ Prize:
The winner will recieve up to €30.000.
