Short description

Starting in November 2022, Saint-Gobain Sekurit is hosting a two-month online challenge which will give students from German and French universities the opportunity to rethink automotive glazing.

The task of the 2022 challenge:

As a user, how do you envision interacting with your vehicle glazing in 2035?

The concept should include at least parts of the conventional vehicle glazing. The concepts may reinterpret the appearance of vehicle glazing (e.g., shape and composition)

The concept should target interactions from the user and the car

The market segment of the vehicle is to be a premium vehicle

The Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) concept may include other technologies, but glass must be a relevant aspect of the solution

The concept should focus on the user group of millennials living in an urban environment

The jury will consist of interdisciplinary experts from the Saint-Gobain Group (Technical experts, design experts, user experience experts).

The best submissions will be invited to the Saint-Gobain Research Center Germany.

The winners will get the chance to further develop their concepts together with their experts. Each team or individual competitor will be guided by a mentor group of Saint-Gobain design and technical experts during the challenge.

Note! Participants must register on the Student Design Challenge website before October 31st, 2022.

Submission requirements:

Submissions will only be accepted in the English language.

1. Upload: A concept video (max. 2 minutes) or a booklet of the concept.
2. Upload: A video presentation (max. 2 minutes) in which the participants introduce their concept and the way they developed the concept.

Evaluation Criteria:

Concept Design: Does the concept match the scope of the 2022 challenge? How do the technologies presented fit into the overall concept of the vehicle?

Innovative Design: Does the presented concept show new ways of interaction with glass? Is the material glass reinterpreted as an interaction space? How does the Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) merge with the vehicle concept?

User Experience: How does the concept presented enhance the user experience? Does the concept support the user requirements?

The winners will be announced in January 2023.
