Milan Design Loft – TerraViva Architecture Competition

Milan Design Loft – TerraViva Architecture Competition is now open for entries!

TerraViva Competitions recently has launched its Milan Design Loft, an interior design competition that invites partecipants to completely rethink the apartment, imagining a contemporary living space designed for an architecture student.

Short description

Milan Design Loft is an interior design competition organised by TerraViva Competitions and set in the heart of Città Studi, one of Milan’s most vibrant academic districts and home to the Politecnico di Milano. The competition focuses on the renovation of a loft, characterised by double-height spaces, generous natural light and a strong spatial identity.

Participants are invited to completely rethink the apartment, imagining a contemporary living space designed for an architecture student. The challenge goes beyond aesthetic choices, encouraging designers to reflect on daily routines such as studying, working in groups, resting and socialising.

The main goal of Milan Design Loft is to completely rethink the selected apartment through a bold and coherent renovation proposal. Participants are invited to work on the overall spatial concept, reimagining not only the layout, but also the relationship between levels.

Working within limited dimensions is a central theme of the competition. What may initially appear as a constraint becomes an opportunity to explore inventive interior solutions, flexible layouts and multifunctional spaces. Full freedom is granted to redefine the organisation of the apartment, modify the mezzanine and experiment with materials, furniture and lighting strategies.

Milan Design Loft is an invitation to think big within a small space, designing an interior that is expressive, functional and capable of supporting contemporary student life in one of Europe’s leading architectural capitals.

The jury will evaluate all the proposals according to the following principles:

Originality of the concept
Creative interpretation of the program
Interior design
Contemporary approach
Sensitive use of materials and colours
Graphic representation

Projects that express a special sensitivity towards interior design and quality architectural solutions will be highly appreciated.

Submission requirements:

One A1 panels (59,4 x 84,1 cm - horizontal) and a brief text describing the proposal (250-500 words).

Panels must include all the information necessary to best explain the project (title, diagrams, sketches, 3D visualizations, plans and sections, renders, collages, model photos, etc). All kinds of graphic representations will be accepted.

The competition is open to students, architects, designers, urbanists, engineers, artists, makers, activists and anyone interested in the architectural design.
