“Balconi per Roma” Competition: “Balconi per Roma” Competition, promoted by the Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio, annual event scheduled for the first weekend of April in Rome - Auditorium Ennio Morricone Music Park - Hanging park, invites architects, landscape architects, agronomists, designers, artists and creatives of any nationality to participate.

Short description

“Balconi per Roma” Competition, promoted by the Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio, annual event scheduled for the first weekend of April in Rome - Auditorium Ennio Morricone Music Park - Hanging park.

The competition is aimed at architects, landscape architects, agronomists, designers, artists and creatives of any kind nationality, for the conception, design and construction of a balcony.

The Festival strongly believes that the garden, regardless of shape and size, is the field of experimenting with one's own vision of the world and not a miniature universe or refuge from reality.

The 2024 edition of the competition asks partecipants to transform the balcony into a creative installation. The balcony is the symbolic threshold between inside and outside, an open border where meeting, exchange, representation and narration come together.

The balconies are real outdoor rooms, offering fragments of changing landscape with the seasons, they encourage different ways of living and cohabiting, they stimulate new habits. They are the expression and extension of ourselves and the response to fundamental emotional needs, such as belonging, sharing, comfort, fun.

Designed by architects and landscape architects or by artists and creatives, candidates must propose the transformation of the balcony into a stage inspired by a private occasion or by adults current affairs, with historical memory or fantastic imagination, linked to travel, art, cinema, music, books or trends, which reflects the identity and values of those who live there. Microenvironments with or without vegetation, playful, ecological, colourful, capable of becoming the manifesto of a new lifestyle, sustainable and respectful, the personal contribution to the interpretation of the world.

The organization provides selected projects with 1 wooden platform 200cm x 83cm h. 70cm. There is no financial contribution for the setup. The wooden deck comes with a gray colored bottom, selected designers can however color and/or screw elements onto the surface while ensuring their integrity. Not It is permitted to use glue of any kind on the surface of the platform.

The projects presented will be subjected to the final judgment of the jury which will decide examine the proposals and select the balconies to be built. Among the projects carried out, the jury will select the winner of the Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio.

The thirteenth edition of the Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio will take place on 5 – 6 - April 7, 2024.

Submission requirements:

n.2 A3 documents in pdf format: one with the concept/design idea (sketch or drawing) and one with the technical drawing of the project. The two papers will have to report the title of the project.
short report (max 3000 characters) with the title and main characteristics of the project.
summary of the project (max 1000 characters).

quality of the manufacturing component
overall feasibility of the proposal

Who may enter?

The competition is aimed at architects, landscape architects, agronomists, designers, artists and creatives of any kind nationality, for the conception, design and construction of a balcony.

Prize:

The selected proposals will be created at the expense and care of the designers on the occasion of Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio. On Sunday 7 April, in the presence of institutions, the press, architects and landscape architects jury will award the 2024 Festival del Verde e del Paesaggio prize to the winning project.
