The World Sports Photography Awards 2027 are now open for entries, inviting professional, semi-professional and amateur sports photographers worldwide to submit their best sports images for free.
Short description
The World Sports Photography Awards 2027, sponsored by Canon, are now open for entries, celebrating outstanding sports photography from around the world.
The international competition recognises images that capture the action, emotion, energy and stories of sport, bringing together professional, semi-professional and amateur photographers as well as specialist sports photography agencies.
Photographers can enter images across 23 sporting categories, covering disciplines including football, athletics, basketball, cycling, motorsports, swimming, tennis, winter sports and many more.
Entrants may submit up to 10 images across the available categories, with no limit on the number of different categories they may enter.
For the 2027 competition, submitted photographs must have been taken between December 2025 and November 2026.
Entries will be judged by an international panel of experts from sport, media, photography, brands and the creative industries, with images assessed on technical skill, diversity, originality and creativity of composition.
Submission requirements
➜ Entrants may submit up to 10 images across the available categories.
➜ Photographs must have been taken between December 2025 and November 2026.
➜ All entries must be submitted digitally through the official competition website.
➜ Black and white photographs are accepted.
➜ Each image must have a name in the file name and a short description included in its metadata.
➜ The photographer's name and the date the photograph was taken must also be included in the image metadata.
➜ Reasonable post-production adjustments are permitted, including cropping and tonal or colour correction, but images must represent real moments and must not be artificially constructed or manipulated.

The competition is open worldwide to professional, semi-professional and amateur sports photographers, as well as specialist sports photography agencies.
