KBr Photo Award 2025 : The Fundación MAPFRE is announcing the KBr Photo Award 2025, an international biennial prize that reaffirms the Fundación’s commitment to artistic creation through its promotion of the winning photographer on the national and international art scene and by facilitating his/her career with an exhibition of their work and an associated catalogue.

Fundación MAPFRE recently has launched the 3rd call for entries of the KBr Photo Award, a biennial international prize and competition that reaffirms the Fundación’s support for artistic creation.

This award seeks to recognize and highlight photographers with an established professional career whose work demonstrates artistic values of particular interest within the tradition of documentary photography.

This prestigious international photography competition aims to foster innovative storytelling through powerful visual narratives, encouraging photographers to explore pressing contemporary issues, cultural landscapes, and human experiences with authenticity and creativity.

The KBr Photo Award is open to Spanish and non-Spanish artists aged over 18 who will produce a new photographic project or complete an already undertaken one, both previously unpublished and which have not been entered for any other similar competition.

Participants are expected to present original, unpublished projects, whether entirely new concepts or significant continuations of existing photographic investigations, clearly demonstrating potential for substantial development.

There is no fixed subject, but preference will be given to entries that reflect the tradition of documentary photography.

The winning project, carefully chosen by a distinguished international jury composed of curators, photography experts, and cultural leaders, will receive substantial support, including a generous financial prize and significant public exposure.

The KBr Photo Award winner gains the opportunity to showcase their completed work through high-profile solo exhibitions at the esteemed KBr Photography Center in Barcelona and Fundación MAPFRE’s gallery in Madrid that is scheduled for June 2027.

➜ Submission requirements:

➜ Description of the project and its aims, in PDF format.

➜ Selection of between 10 and 15 images which illustrateand describe the proposal. These images should be JPGs or TIFF with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

➜ Letter of recommendation from two professionals of recognized prestige in the field of photography, contemporary art, curatorship or publishing.

➜ Entries can be written in Spanish or English.

➜ Who may enter?

Open to photographers of any nationality aged 18 +, with at least one solo exhibition or publication, submitting previously unpublished work not entered elsewhere.

➜ Prize:

The winner receives a €25,000 cash award to develop the project within ten months, plus mentoring; their work will be showcased in solo exhibitions at KBr Barcelona and Fundación MAPFRE Madrid and accompanied by a published catalogue.
