The 5th Bio-Art Contest 2017: Virtual Life now is over!

The 5th Bio-Art Contest 2017 organised by Medicinal Bioconvergence Research Center, Seoulin Bio Science and Gwacheon National Science Museum, is an cultural event that has been recently lunced for science and art to find out the real value and beauty of life through the convergence of digital life and life as of the era of virtual reality.

About Competition


Medicinal Bioconvergence Research Center (Biocon) from Seoul National University, Seoulin Bio Science and Gwacheon National Science Museum are jointly holding art contest titled the 2017 Bio-Art Contest.

This art contest is held under the theme of “Virtual life” and tries to find out the real value and beauty of life through the convergence of digital life and life as of the era of virtual reality.

A virtual reality that integrates two separate world opens our eyes to new possibilities and perspectives.
Based on its own possibilities, digital media made people express artistic imagination in wide range through technical imagination. In this environment, many works related to human life lower the borders between the areas of art and technology, suggesting a whole new paradigm.

A life can be a substance or not. Information also can be considered a sort of life. The main agent can be expanded not only to human and nature but also to virtual life. Each agent of life creates own unique image and generates creative and artistic events with digital media.

The organizers expect to see virtual life that would be created by combination of biology, digital technology and artistic imagination and the possibility of coexistence.

You can partecipate individualy or in a group (maximum of 4 members) can participate.

Guidlines for submition:

- Digital photograph, computer graphics: it should be in JPG format with the minimum resolution of 2560×1920 pixel (in case of Resolution 72) without watermark or caption.
Microscope photographs: submit the work with the best resolution of the machine as possible.
Video clip: the resolution of video should be higher than 1280×720 pixel and should not exceed 100MB in MP4 format (no longer than 3 minutes)
Submitted file should be named as: “Name (name of the leader)_ Title’ ex) “Gil-dong Hong_ Virtual life”
