The Moth Nature Writing Prize 2025, international competition organized by The Month , an international arts and literature magazine, based in Ireland, has been recently opened for entries inviting worldwide anyone over the age of 16 to participate.

This contest aims to encourage and celebrate the art of nature writing. It is awarded annually to unpublished pieces of prose or poetry which best combine exceptional literary merit with an exploration of the writers’ relationship with the natural world.

You can submit both poetry and prose. There is a word limit of 4,000.

English translations of work originally written in another language are acceptable, as long as translator has permission, and author and translator agree to share prize money.

Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, self-published, published online or broadcast.

The winning entries will appear in the Irish Times online.

➜ Who may enter?

The competition is open to anyone over the age of 16.

➜ Prize:

➜ 1st prize: 1,000 € and a week at The Moth Retreat in Ireland
➜ 2nd prize: 500 €
➜ 3rd prize: 250 €

➜ Entry fees:

Entry fee is 15€ per entry.
