The Fábrica Histórias – Casa Jaime Umbelino presents their 3rd illustration contest on the theme of “Transformation“ inviting authors in the field of Illustration, over 18 years of age to participate.
Short description
The Fábrica das Histórias – Casa Jaime Umbelino (FH-CJU) presents the 3rd edition of the Biennial Illustration Competition on the theme “Transformation”.
The contest is held every two years and its main aims are to promote illustration as an artistic discipline, to bring the participating artists and students closer to Torres Vedras' cultural heritage, and to create new artistic content within the framework of the themes chosen for each year.
Works created using any technique on paper are accepted, but if digital techniques are used, they must be printed on quality paper, all with identification only on the back of the illustration.
Each artist can submits an original entry, relating to the theme, created for the contest and that has not been previously published or published.
The selected works will be featured in an exhibition from strong>11th April 2026 to 31st July 2026 at the Fábrica das Histórias – Casa Jaime Umbelino, an initiative integrated into the 7th Torres Vedras – City of Books. The list of finalist illustrations that will be included in the exhibition to be shown at Fábrica das Histórias – Casa Jaime Umbelino will be published by 27 February 2026.
Submission requirements:
All work must respect the defined standard dimensions and horizontal orientation.
➜ Authors in the field of Illustration: A3 - 297 x 420mm;
➜ Secondary school students: A4 - 210 x 297mm.
Entries must be submitted in digital format and entrants must upload a JPEG file with 300 DPI
resolution.
Who may enter?
The competition is aimed at:
➜ artists who are of legal age at the time the competition opens, resident or non-resident in Portugal (natural persons).
➜ secondary school students studying in the municipalities that make up Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste: Alcobaça, Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha, Lourinhã, Nazaré, Óbidos, Peniche, Sobral de Monte Agraço e Torres Vedras
Prize:
Artists in the field of illustration:
➜ the 1st place winner receives a cash prize of 1500 euros.
➜ the 2nd place winner receives a cash prize of 500 euros.
Each artist selected from the group of finalists receives a contest catalogue.
Secondary school students:
➜ The 1st place winner receives books/educational, cultural, and recreational materials worth 200 euros.
➜ The 2nd place winner receives books/school supplies/educational, cultural, and recreational materials worth 150 euros.
➜ The 1st and 2nd place winners receive a contest catalogue.
The winning illustrations in the contest for artists in the field of illustration will become part of the organisation's art collection, except for secondary school students.
