International Illustrated Album Contest 2023 now is over!

International Illustrated Album Contest 2023: The International Illustrated Album Contest promoted by the Island Library of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, has been recently opened or entries for six consecutive years, inviting all writers and illustrators original album-book projects, based on original narrative and visual concepts.

Short description

The International Illustrated Album Contest promoted by the Island Library of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, was launched in 2005, with Edelvives being in charge of publishing the award for six consecutive years. This contest is one of the best in its category in the field of Hispanic literature, and it has a rich history of collaboration with various publishers.

All persons, writers and illustrators of legal age who, without distinction of their place of origin or residence, present a work in the Spanish language, will be eligible for the International Contest for the “Illustrated Album of the Gran Canaria Island Library”.

Participants are encouraged to submit original album-book (productions combining text and images, or exclusively images) projects, based on original narrative and visual concepts, previously unpublished that resonate with the theme of narrative and visual ingenuity.
The competition welcomes entrants from diverse backgrounds, transcending geographical boundaries, and fostering a global community of creative storytellers. While embracing this artistic diversity, the contest ensures a level playing field for all, promoting the use of the Spanish language as the conduit for imaginative expression.

The selection of the winning piece will take into account the following criteria:

Best text/image narrative concept.
Originality, literary and graphic quality of its content.
Harmony reached in the text/image presentation.

Who may enter?

The participation in the “Illustrated Album International Contest of the Insular Library of Gran Canaria” is open to all writers and illustrators, with legal age, that regardless of their place of origin or residence, submit a production in Spanish.

Prize:

The winner of the contest will receive a prize of €11,000, including a €2,000 Copyright advance. If there are multiple authors, the prize will be equally divided among them. The winning album will be published by Editorial Everest, a prominent children’s publisher in Spain.
