Porto Design Biennale 2021 | Open Call - Graphic Design: The Open Call for Graphic Design PDB’21 invites portfolio submissions from designers, studios or design agencies to be considered for developing the visual identity of Porto Design Biennale 2021 edition, under the theme ’Alter-Realities: Designing the Present’.

➜ Short description

The Open Call for Graphic Design PDB ’21, launched by Porto Design Biennale [PDB] and organized by esad - idea, Research in Design and Art, invites designers, studios and design agencies to submit their portfolios to the jury as candidates to develop a proposal for the visual identity of Porto Design Biennale 2021, under the theme ’Alter-Realities: Designing the Present’.

With this Open Call, PDB intends to invite initiatives from outside the organization, promoting the visibility of designers that, due to both the quality of their work and their approach to the theme of this edition, are able to contribute to enrich the communication, the dialogue and reflections with local and international audiences.

In this edition, we want to ask ourselves how we can create and design together, reveal, critique and amplify Alter-Realities in order to reorientate ourselves towards futures where trust in each other is restored, where regeneration not destruction is evident, and where we find a new relationality between us and Others.Throughout PDB’21, in articulation with the four sub-themes - Alter-Scapes, Alter-Care, Alter-Production and Alter-Livelihoods - we aim to experiment through materializing and prototyping; to seed new social imaginaries; to create fruitful, pleasurable and meaningful experiences; and to promote walking as a means to navigate, explore and inhabit the present. The competition is takes place in two different stages. In the First Stage the jury assesses the submitted portfolios and proceeds to select 5 [five] candidates passing to the Second Stage.The Second Stage involves the submission of a proposal by each of the 5 [five] candidates selected for the visual design of Porto Design Biennale 2021 — Alter-Realities: Designing the Present. The jury will select one of the five proposals.

➜ Who may enter?

This competition is open to all designers, studios or design agencies.

➜ Prize:

The selected proposal will be developed and applied to the various communication / promotion materials of Porto Design Biennale. The author of the selected proposal will implement the graphic image for 1 [one] event and for the Porto Design Biennale 2021 website. The visual identity of the remaining events will be developed by the esad - idea design team, with the accompaniment of the author(s) of the winning proposal, which will provide 6 [six] consultancy sessions for this purpose.

The total sum of €5.000, is allocated equally to each of the five selected authors, in prizes of €1.000.

The author of the proposal selected in the Second Stage will provide services of €10.000 to the organizing entity + VAT at the legal rate in force if applicable.
