The Ten Scary Minutes 2026 - Horror movie contest, one of the longest ongoing horror movie making contest, now in its 14th edition is open for entries.
You are invited to create a ten minute or less, horror movie. With the exceptional video recording capabilities of smartphones, the advent of high quality POV cameras, (at this time 360 immersive video is not supported), and the many user-friendly video editing options like I-Movie, Movie Maker etc., the organizers decided to have a little fun and challenge you to a horror movie contest.
It may be Gothic scary, like Hitchcock, shock scary, mock scary or outright B-movie campy! The idea is to take that cool smartphone or action cam, use your imagination and have a little fun!
The thematic scope of the contest is intentionally broad, allowing creators to explore any corner of the horror genre they choose.
This is a not-for profit video contest where the organisers only goal is to to help ignite the imaginations and showcase grass-roots budding movie producers. Your entry may be less than but not longer than ten minutes. Most entries have been in the six (6) minute range with 20 seconds of credits which is perfect! For those of you with a good story to tell, no more than ten (10) scary minutes!
Winners are announced by November 30th each year and notified via email and/or website announcement.
Submission requirements
➜ Films must not exceed 10 minutes in total runtime, including all credits.
➜ Accepted file formats include MP4, MOV, and WebM. Maximum file size is 5GB. For best results, export at 1080p H.264.
Eligibility
The Contest is open to individuals who are at least 13 years old at the time of entry.
Benefits
The grand prize is $500 USD.
