2022 Make it [Work] Wear Fashion Design Challenge: Make it [Work] Wear is an all new, international fashion competition recently announced for entries, that provides designers the opportunity to reimagine, redefine and reanimate Flame Resistant (FR) Workwear with the chance at international exposure and some serious prize money.

Short description

Make it [Work] Wear is a new international fashion competition that provides designers the opportunity to reimagine, redefine and reanimate Flame Resistant (FR) Workwear.

The idea was born out of desire to help facilitate innovation around workwear design. Using organizer's brand new fire resistant stretch fabric, they are providing student designers the opportunity to reimagine, redefine and reanimate Flame Resistant (FR) Workwear.

This fashion design contest seeks to discover a new breed of FR (flame resistant) workwear - stylish protection that feels great and that industrial professionals want to wear.

In today’s industrial market, modern workers are especially unhappy with their garments. This competition aims to leverage the designer’s creativity and problem-solving skills to solve this experience by utilizing cutting-edge FR stretch fabric to produce a new breed of workwear garment - one that looks and feels as well as it protects.

Protective FR workwear worn in industrial settings is designed to protect the wearer from heat and flame hazards such as arc flashes, molten metal splashes, liquid chemicals, etc.

The protective qualities of FR workwear are found mostly in the FR fabrics from which the garments are assembled. However, there are also compositional cut and sew elements that come into play when producing a protective workwear garment.
The project must meet or fall within the following parameters:

1. The concept must display a relevant/modern style that’s also functional in workwear applications
2. The concept must aim to meet the needs of modern industrial workers
3. The concept must display a Traditional to Athletic fit - No slim fit
4. The concept must not display any loose ends or hanging elements (safety issues)
5. The concept must integrate on-garment storage aspects (i.e., pockets)

This competition is open to 3rd and 4th year fashion design students to want to harness their creativity and skill to uncover the next design breakthrough in FR workwear.
