The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, a major new program for short films providing an exceptional opportunity for creators and filmmakers from around the world, has been recently opened for entries inviting filmmakers worldwide to participate.

Short description

The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards has been recently opened for entries. This is a major new program for short films providing an exceptional opportunity for creators and filmmakers from around the world.

There are three competitions:

Filmmaker
Aimed at independent filmmakers and creators from around the world, there are three categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction and Environment. Submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length.

Student Filmmaker
All entrants must be studying a film course at a registered institution at a diploma or degree level worldwide. There are two categories: Fiction and Non-fiction. Submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length.

Future Format
The Future Format competition challenges filmmakers to respond to a technical brief – this year, submissions are to be shot exclusively on a smartphone. Submissions must be between 2 to 5 minutes in length.

Eligibility

This competition is open worldwide to all filmmakers.

Benefits

The 30 successful filmmakers will be flown to Los Angeles to visit Sony Pictures studio in Culver City, California, where they’ll gain unparalleled insight into the world of cinema and exclusive access to industry experts through panel discussions, workshops and screenings.
